To apply for a Class 2 commercial driver’s licence in Saskatchewan, you must be at least 18 years old, hold a full Class 5 driver’s licence, submit a medical report, and pass a vision test.
Next, you must pass a basic knowledge exam on the rules of the road, a sign test on the meanings of road signs, and the Class 2 endorsement (knowledge) test on the theory of operating Class 2 vehicles. The passing score for each test is 80%. The tests are based on the official Saskatchewan Driver’s Handbook and the Professional Driver’s Handbook. Once you pass the endorsement test, you can get a Class 2 endorsement, which will allow you to practice driving Class 2 vehicles under supervision.
Because most Class 2 vehicles in Saskatchewan have air brakes, you should also get an Air Brake endorsement. To do this, you must pass the official Air Brake Knowledge Test and the Air Brake Practical Test. In the Practical Test, you’ll demonstrate how an air brake system works and how to adjust a manual slack adjuster. You must qualify for the endorsement before taking a road test in a vehicle equipped with air brakes.
Once you’ve trained sufficiently with your Class 2 endorsement, you may book a road test for a Class 2 commercial driver’s licence. You must take the test in a Class 2 vehicle.
You should read the Saskatchewan Driver’s Handbook (to refresh your memory on the rules of the road) and study the Professional Driver’s Handbook (on commercial driving). However, that’s a lot of material to learn and memorize. You may find yourself wishing for more intensive knowledge training than just reading the manuals a few times. That’s what we do.
This is the first of our seven Saskatchewan Class 2 Licence Knowledge practice tests. It deals with the basics of operating Class 2 vehicles. If you get stuck on a practice question, ask our AI Assistant to give you a hint or rephrase the question. You can also ask your own questions about commercial driving. If you still miss the practice question, the AI Assistant will immediately give you the correct answer and an explanation.
A Class 2 vehicle can carry over 24 passengers. However, a Class 2 commercial licence also allows you to operate vehicles in Classes 3, 4, and 5. This means that you can operate full-size transit buses, coach buses, and school buses (if you meet some additional requirements). You can also operate Class 4 vehicles, such as hotel, airport, and worksite shuttles and seniors’ and accessible transportation.
