Obtaining a Class 7 learner’s licence in Nova Scotia requires a minimum age of 16, passing a vision screening and the Class 7 Knowledge Exam, presenting valid government-issued identification, and, if under 18, providing written parental or guardian consent. Failing the Nova Scotia Class 7 Knowledge Exam requires a one-day wait and retest fee. Fines and Limits are a substantial part of the exam. Our Nova Scotia Fines and Limits Practice Test is designed to help you ace this part on your first attempt.
Nova Scotia’s Graduated Driving License (GDL) system consists of three stages to gradually introduce driving privileges to all new drivers, regardless of age: Learner’s Licence (Class 7), Newly Licensed Stage (Class 5N), and Restricted Individual Stage (Class 5). (Both the Class 5N and Class 5 stages require a two-year holding period.) For Class 7, Nova Scotia imposes strict alcohol and supervision restrictions, a midnight to 5 a.m. curfew, specific protocols for general road safety and emergency vehicle situations, mandatory vehicle inspections, and insurance requirements. There are also collision reporting responsibilities (with fines for leaving the scene or failing to file a report). Violations can lead to fines, demerit points, licence suspension, and mandatory retesting. You cannot exit the GDL system without satisfying all holding periods, completing an approved driver training program, and providing proof of completion to the Registry. Failure to meet these requirements results in indefinite GDL restrictions.
Fines pertain to posted speed limits, yielding to pedestrians, emergency vehicles, and transit buses, and following the “slow to 60 km/h and move over” rule for stopped emergency vehicles. Additional rules apply for driving under adverse conditions, including the use of appropriate tires and safety equipment. This is just some of what may be tested on the exam.
The Nova Scotia Knowledge Exam must be taken at a Registry of Motor Vehicles office and comprises two tests of 20 questions each (each requiring 16 correct responses to pass). Our Nova Scotia Fines and Limits Practice Test is based on the most recent version of the Driver’s Handbook and contains 30 multiple-choice questions. It provides an immediate explanation for each response, ensuring you pass this part of the official knowledge test on your first attempt.
