Obtaining a Class 7 learner’s licence in Nova Scotia requires a minimum age of 16, passing a vision screening, and passing the Class 7 Knowledge Exam. Additionally, you must present valid government-issued identification, medical documentation, and, if under 18, written parental or guardian consent. Failing the Nova Scotia Class 7 Knowledge Exam requires a one-day wait and a retest fee. Our Nova Scotia Driver’s Practice Test is designed to help you ace the knowledge exam on your first attempt.
Regardless of age, new drivers must adhere to Nova Scotia’s Graduated Driving License (GDL) system and are tested on its structure and expectations. It consists of three stages that gradually introduce driving privileges: Learner’s Licence (Class 7), Newly Licensed Stage (Class 5N), and Restricted Individual Stage (Class 5). For Class 7 Learners, Nova Scotia imposes strict alcohol and supervision restrictions and a midnight to 5 a.m. curfew. (Subsequent stages, like Class 5N, allow exemptions if nightly work-related driving is needed.) Specific procedures for road safety and emergency vehicle situations, mandatory vehicle inspections, collision reporting expectations, and insurance requirements can be included on the official exam, as well as how violations can lead to fines, demerit points, licence suspension, and mandatory retesting. New drivers cannot exit the GDL system without satisfying all holding periods, completing an approved driver training program, and providing proof of its completion to the Registry.
Applicants must be aware of fines for violating posted speed limits and rules for yielding to pedestrians, emergency vehicles, and transit buses. They are expected to know the “slow to 60 km/h and move over” rule for stopped emergency vehicles and best practices for driving under adverse conditions. All this is just some of what may be tested, and it’s covered on our practice tests.
The Nova Scotia Knowledge Exam must be taken at a Registry of Motor Vehicles office and comprises two tests of 20 questions each. Each test requires 16 correct responses to pass. Our Nova Scotia Driver’s Practice Test provides an immediate explanation for each response. It’s based on the most recent version of the Driver’s Handbook and contains 20 multiple-choice questions that help you pass the official knowledge exam on your first attempt.
