To obtain a Class 5 learner’s licence in Manitoba, you must be at least 16 (or 15½ if currently enrolled in a Driver Z program), pass a vision screening and the Class 5 Knowledge Test, present valid government-issued identification, and if under 18, provide written parental or guardian consent. To pass the Manitoba Class 5 Knowledge Test, you must study the province’s fines, limits, and regulations, among other topics. Our Free Manitoba Fines, Limits, and Regulations Practice Test is designed to help you ace those questions on your first attempt. Failing the exam results in a minimum seven-day wait and a retest fee.
Manitoba’s three-stage Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL) program (applicable to all new drivers) begins with a 9-month-minimum learner stage that enforces zero tolerance for impaired driving. It continues with an intermediate phase lasting at least 15 months, followed by the full license. Issues commonly covered on the knowledge exam include Manitoba’s penalties for traffic violations. These penalties include fines, licence suspensions, imprisonment, and even lifetime licence suspension for severe violations like driving with a suspended licence. Drivers must carefully follow the rules at construction and emergency zones, school bus stops, and crosswalks or face substantial fines and a lower Driver Safety Rating (DSR) (which directly impacts insurance premiums). Additionally, Manitoba’s Driver Improvement and Control Program escalates penalties with the goal of correcting unsafe behaviour. Manitoba also requires that drivers report collisions that result in injury or death, as well as those caused by impaired individuals. Penalties for failing to report or fleeing the scene can be assessed.
The Manitoba Knowledge Exam, available in multiple languages, is a 30-minute timed test comprising 30 multiple-choice questions. You must take the exam at an MPI Service Centre, and you must correctly answer at least 24 out of 30 (80%) questions to pass.
Our Manitoba Fines, Limits, and Regulations Practice Test provides immediate explanations for each response, speeding the learning process and ensuring you pass this part of the official knowledge test on your first attempt. Based on the most recent version of the Manitoba Drivers Handbook, the test contains 30 multiple-choice questions to assess your knowledge of fines, limits, and regulations.
