In the Northwest Territories, Class 3 vehicles are typically single-unit trucks with three or more axles. However, they can tow a trailer but it must not weigh more than 4,500 kg if it has air brakes. There is a tremendous variety of such trucks, serving a wide range of industries and functions.

Next, you must pass an the Northwest Territories Class 3 knowledge test on the theory of driving Class 3 vehicles. You must score at least 80% to pass. Passing the test enables you to obtain a Class 3 learner’s licence, which will allow you to practice commercial driving under supervision.
Many (but not all) Class 3 vehicles have air brakes. To drive such trucks, you must become qualified to operate air brakes. In the Northwest Territories, you must complete an approved air brake course and pass the official Air Brake knowledge test. You can take the Class 3 and Air Brake knowledge tests on the same day.
When you feel ready, book a road test for a Class 3 licence. You must take the road test in a Class 3 vehicle. If you’re applying for an Air Brake endorsement, the vehicle must be equipped with air brakes.
